Dr. Alex Kelsheimer

Dr. Alex Kelsheimer is an Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Hand, Wrist, Elbow, Shoulder, and Microsurgery. He attended Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa where he earned his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training and Biology. During his time at Clarke, he was on the volleyball team and won many scholar-athlete honors.

After graduating valedictorian from Clarke University, Dr. Kelsheimer attended Des Moines University and earned his medical degree graduating with multiple honors including the Sigma Sigma Phi and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. He then went on to complete his Orthopedic Surgery residency in St. Louis, Missouri at St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital. As a resident, Dr. Kelsheimer served in leadership roles as the Chief Intern and Chief Resident. Following completion of his residency, he then completed an additional year of training at the prestigious Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa, Florida focusing on hand, upper extremity, and microsurgery.

Dr. Kelsheimer is honored to be joining Orthopedic Specialists. He will be providing comprehensive upper extremity care. Dr. Kelsheimer’s practice will encompass fracture management, nerve and tendon injuries, sports injuries, trauma, and arthritic conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He performs a variety of procedures including minimally invasive arthroscopic and endoscopic procedures and upper extremity total joint replacements.

Dr. Kelsheimer’s philosophy is to take a personalized approach with each patient, educating them about their condition, and using shared decision making to give them honest, straightforward treatment options. He focuses on conservative and surgical treatment when indicated.

As natives of St. Louis, Dr. Kelsheimer and his wife are excited to have returned home to raise their two children. In his free time, Dr. Kelsheimer enjoys spending time with his family, hearing his wife sing, woodworking, photography, and volleyball.
