Injections

Injections are modality of conservative treatment used for a wide variety of orthopedic aliments.  These are often used when oral medications are not providing desired pain control.  Most commonly corticosteriods are utilized for these procedures and thus the term cortisone injection.  They are group of drugs that reduced inflammation and can be very effective, even reducing the possible need for surgical intervention.  In general they are safe and effective. However, they are medications and maybe become less effect over time and are less effective some individuals.  They also can lose there effect as the disease process worsens as in the case of degenerative joint disease or osteoarthritis.  The links below provide further insight for their use in specific areas of the body.
